TikTok, home of bizarre viral trends and headquarters for the Step Chickens. What will TikTok users think of next?! Oh wait, we have that answer already: It’s the “Money Egg.” If you’ve seen the viral TikTok Money Egg video, posted May 25, which features a voice narrating the “rules” to a Money Egg game while someone draws a line down the middle of a huge toy-like egg and writing “A” and “E” on either side, you might be wondering what the point is.
“This is the famous Money Egg. But we can only keep what’s on our side of the line. This is my side and here’s Emma’s. Emma, get your dig stick ready, ’cause we’re about to dig some big bucks. Emma, are you digging it?” Either the same or perhaps a different voice responds, “Oh, I am!” After a couple seconds of some kind of satisfying scraping, the narrator says, “Come back for tomorrow’s daily dig and whatever we win —” the narrator says and gets cut off.
So, what’s the Money Egg?
The weird (and frustrating) thing about Money Egg, is that if you do go to the account that posted (beauty account @planetmakeup) you’ll notice that it’s never revealed what’s inside the Money Egg. Is it actually money? Is it makeup? Is it all of our lost hopes and dreams? Seemingly, the Money Egg is actually just this dinosaur egg toy called “Dig It Up! The Big Egg” which you can purchase for $20.95 online. The whole point of the toy is to dig into it and find little dinosaurs inside. See?
And here’s what it looks like when you’re finally able to dig up the contents of the egg.
Some TikTok users have been “playing along” by creating a duet with the Money Egg narrator. The point is, again, unclear.
Right now, the original TikTok video has almost 2,000 hearts and 11 comments (none of which point to why this video exists). While that may not be super satisfying, most likely this video was created just for fun, or to poke fun at “big reveal” videos that are meant to show a grand prize at the end of the video if you keep watching. Unless a new video is coming out soon, we probably won’t learn what’s inside (although most likely, it’s just dino toys!).
