Authorities in New York arrested an 18-year-old man after he allegedly rammed a car into a protest, injuring two people on bicycles.
A video, taken by Sam Seligson and published by ABC7NY, shows what appears to be the moment the car hits bicyclists. The incident occurred on Saturday evening in Manhattan. ABC7NY previously reported the bicyclists said the protest was regarding voter registration. It has also been reported that the bicyclists were participating in a “Justice Ride” for the Black Lives Matter movement.
Victor Kent was charged with assault and for fleeing the scene of the incident.
One witness told ABC7NY the car sped up as it got closer to bicyclists and that they heard the attacker hurl a racial slur at the protesters.
One of the victims of the attack, Allison, a teenager who did not share her last name, told ABC7NY she was riding by her father when she turned around to see the car coming toward her.
“It hit me and just kept going,” she said on Monday.
Both Allison and the other victim sustained minor injuries; the other bicyclist reportedly refused treatment.
