A new video trending on Reddit and Twitter shows an unprovoked member of the Proud Boys punching a journalist during this weekend’s controversial “Million MAGA March” in Washington, D.C.
The edited video, which has more than 63,000 upvotes on Reddit, starts with a pack of marching Proud Boys screaming, “The media sucks!” Then, it cuts directly to a Proud Boy landing three weak punches on an unsuspecting reporter.
The reporter asks the Proud Boy why he punched him, sounding more annoyed than injured.
The Proud Boys were one of several far-right groups at the Million MAGA March, along with the white nationalist “groypers,” led by Unite the Right attendee Nick Fuentes. In several instances, members of these far-right groups have attacked journalists and other civilians, although prominent conservative figures continue to blame the violence on left-wing counter-protesters. On Saturday, right-wing journalist and social media personality Andy Ngo tweeted a video of Black Lives Matter counter-protesters allegedly attacking a Trump supporter at the rally, but the footage was later revealed to be doctored.
Ivanka Trump alco accused the media of being silent about the “physical violence being perpetrated against conservatives” on Sunday.
Even the GOP stoked controversy on Twitter by vaguely claiming that “President Trump’s supporters were attacked” on Saturday, while ignoring the terrorist actions of far-right groups like the Proud Boys.
Additional footage from this weekend, however, shows these far-right members going out of their way to cause violence. Independent reporter Talia Jane, who was in D.C. for the Million MAGA March, alleged that a Proud Boy stabbed her in the ear and eventually located the culprit.
It does not appear the violence will end soon. The Informant writer and editor Nick Martin tweeted screenshots from a Proud Boys-centric message board in which they mention a murderous event called “The Day of the Rope.” The group has already threatened violence against President-elect Joe Biden.
“The Proud Boys are openly fantasizing about ‘The Day of the Rope,’ a white supremacist concept in which ‘race traitors,’ including journalists, politicians, and women in mixed-race relationships, will be lynched en masse,” Martin wrote.
