A video trending on Reddit shows D.C. Metro cops protecting a Trump-supporting “Karen” who is tearing down Black Lives Matter signs, as well as those of other movements, off a fence that’s bordering the White House.
The video starts as the Trump-supporting Karen, and at least one other man, are seen tearing down the BLM signs.
u/thematgreen commented: “You mean that a group of giant racist crybabies is being protected by a bunch of racists in blue? What a surprise!”
The video has no sound; however, it appears the police onsite cannot stop the Karen from tearing down the signs but can stop the pro-BLM protesters from intervening.
The video also made the rounds on Twitter, complete with a “before” photo and heavy criticism of D.C. Metro police.
What likely drew the ire of the MAGA supporters, including the Trump-supporting Karen, were the big “Loser” and “Failure” signs—especially amid the Million MAGA March taking place concurrently this weekend.
One commenter said the MAGA Karen was also in the wrong because she was not wearing a mask.
@webb0412 tweeted: “@DCPoliceDept @DCGovWeb Last I checked, there was a mask mandate along with littering fines/arrests. Why were these unmasked individuals not issued a citation? Why were they also not given a citation for throwing things on the ground?”
Many protesters and activists within the Movement for Black Lives, which includes Black Lives Matter, have called for cities and other local municipalities to divest from policing and reinvest community resources directly.
In July, the D.C. Council unanimously voted to approve cutting $15 million from the police budget for reinvestment into other non-law enforcement programming, including “more funding for the Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (ONSE) and more allocated funds for the city’s social work programs,” according to WUSA9.
