Vanilla Ice Cancels Texas Concert Because Of Corona Virus

Stop. Collaborate and listen, there’s a pandemic happening so stop booking concerts.

After a brief outcry against it, Vanilla Ice has canceled his concert in Austin, Texas this weekend. The news comes after a brief but loud outcry against the performance, given the surge in coronavirus cases in Texas over the last week.

In a video on Twitter, about a day after promoting the concert on social media, Vanilla Ice told fans to stay home.

Due to the spread of coronavirus, Texas Governor Greg Abbot shut down bars and clubs last week in an attempt to slow and stop the spread. Vanilla Ice posted about the show on Wednesday.

“I take the coronavirus serious. But we can’t live in a bubble,” he tweeted before canceling. “I think at this point we all understand the severity of it. (P)ractice social distancing and wear a mask. This is an outside venue, Fourth of July on the lake with fireworks. Plenty of room for distancing.”

Venue owner Bret Brannam said that both Vanilla Ice and fellow performer, the R&B group Color Me Badd expressed concern over the spread of COVID. He confirmed that they would play at a later date.

“Hard to say. Could be later this summer or not until next summer. We don’t know how long this virus will be around,” Brannam said.

Earlier this week, Ice posted a video on Instagram of a crowd of people collectively missing the 90s. He wrote, “I can’t wait to get back to this. The 90s were the best. We didn’t have coronavirus, or cell phones, or computers.”

According to Billboard, “Only 84 tickets had been sold before the online ticket broker suspended sales.”
