Two 16-year-old cheerleaders from Pittsburgh are finding themselves in the midst of backlash after making a video on TikTok. It isn’t the video’s contents that have people talking, but the time in which it was filmed. Katie Cornetti and friend Marissa Bordas made the video just moments after they were in a car accident. The shattered windshield is seen in the video.

Many think that the video is just further proof that young people are obsessed with social media and getting their viral moment. Katie offers this explanation for why they made the video. “Once we figured out that each of us were okay, we knew that people called the police. We knew that people were on their way,” she said.

“The car we weren’t able to get out of yet, so instead of us freaking out and us worrying, I pulled out my phone,” she added with a giggle. “I went on TikTok and picked a song and thought ‘This will keep us entertained for a minute.”

Katie went on to say that she understood the backlash they were receiving. “I understand a ton where they’re coming from because who does make a TikTok once they just got in an accident? But we cope with our problems by humor and laughing and so we entertained ourselves and tried to get our minds off of what just happened.”
