Caty Nixon is a dedicated labor and delivery nurse who’s been working at the Medical City of McKinney in McKinney, Texas for the past six years.

Caty’s husband is a first responder who also works long and exhausting hours.

In July 2019, Caty went over to her twin sister’s house after a particularly difficult and emotional day. It’s a place she typically goes to find comfort after a trying day when her husband isn’t home.

Caty had just finished her fourth shift in a row, clocking in more than 53 hours in just four days. She barely had any time to eat or drink, or to reflect on all that had happened at the hospital. “She is so good at what she does that she often forgets how to take care of herself while she’s taking care of her patients,” says her twin sister, Laura.

That day, Caty unexpectedly delivered a stillborn baby. As gut-wrenching as it was, she had to keep her emotions bottled up for the sake of her patients and their loved ones. By the time she reached Laura’s house, she collapsed into a chair with her first real meal in days and let herself cry.

Laura was so moved by her sister’s commitment and hard work that she snapped a photo of Caty and shared it on Facebook.

“She’s gonna kill me for this pic, but can we just give it up for nurses for a minute?” Laura’s now-viral post began.

In just a few days, the post had been shared over 100,000 times — serving as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices nurses make every single day.
