Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced that they signed a production deal with Netflix in early September.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will produce titles for the streaming giant such in the form of scripted series, docu-series, documentaries, features, and children’s programming. Prices between $100 million and $150 million have been rumored, though a final number for the deal hasn’t been confirmed.
Since that information came out, there’s been reporting on the royal family’s response to this development. Reports from royal experts say the family is unhappy with the couple’s chosen path. There are several reasons why, but one of the most interesting revolves around a popular Netflix title, The Crown.
The royal family is less than thrilled at the popularity of the partly-fictionalized retelling of Queen Elizabeth’s reign. It’s fourth season, out this November, will incorporate Harry and William’s late mother, Princess Diana. In doing so, it will tell the story of her battles with bulimia and mental health struggles.
The royal family is uncomfortable with the portrayal. They feel that Harry and Meghan are making it seem acceptable with their partnership with Netflix, a sentiment they allegedly do not feel themselves.
