For so many years, David Whitman lived as a foster child.

After two failed adoptions, he was tired of moving around to different group homes. He desperately wanted something stable as he neared adulthood.

Meanwhile, Brett and James always knew they wanted to adopt a child. They were open to all ages and sibling groups, but they were especially open to the older kids who were likely to age out of the foster care system and/or get passed over for younger children.

The couple saw David’s photo in a DHS packet and he quickly caught their attention.

Then the folks at KFOR news station ran a story about David — the second story they’d run about him — as an update and plea to the public to help him find a family before it was too late.

Brett and James saw David being interviewed while playing baseball at the local batting cages. They saw he was a hardworking and dedicated student on his way to earning a GED.

It was clear that the teen wanted to create the best life possible.

David was comfortable with Brett and James from the moment they meet. And it only took a couple of meetings for the grateful teen to move in.

In the clip below, the teen does something of which he never dreamed: planning his 18th birthday party with his family.
