Therese Kozlowski knew something was wrong. On the days she drank the coffee her husband made for her, she was extremely tired. Therese’s suspicion led her to place a small hidden camera in the kitchen with a view of the coffee pot. What she caught on film was shocking. Her husband had poisoned her repeatedly.
“I fell to my knees and cried,” she said. “I could barely move.” Her husband had been crushing about eight sleeping pills and mixing it into her morning coffee. The abnormal fatigue Therese was experiencing suddenly made sense. She would become exhausted with blurry vision. One morning, she almost crashed her car driving to work after drinking one of Brian’s cups of coffee. Therese had just filed for a divorce, and her husband, Brian, wasn’t handling the news very well.
Not only was Therese’s husband trying to kill her, he had poisoned their daughter as well. Brian was arrested immediately, but the nightmare wasn’t over.
“I felt a horrible coldness in the air, as if I was being hunted by a dangerous predator. But in this nightmare, the predator was Brian,” Therese said at her soon-to-be ex-husband’s trial.
Brian was found guilty. Despite the glaring evidence of his attempt to murder his wife, he was only sentenced to five years probation and 60 weekend days in jail.
“It’s a slap in the face,” the prosecutor said about the judge’s light sentence.
