Originally created by artist and taxidermist Adele Morse, Standing Goat was first posted on her Instagram account on April 23rd, 2018. The post included a short video and description of the goat, receiving nearly 10,000 views in roughly three years (seen below).

The most viral version of Standing Goat comes from a video shared on Morse’s Instagram account on September 5th, 2018, which depicted a camera rotating around the goat in a dark, creepy environment. This video received nearly 23,000 views in three years (shown below).

On December 12th, 2018, Redditor sadtoydogs uploaded the earliest known repost of the goat video to /r/WTF, receiving over 1,500 upvotes and 200 comments in six months. On May 3rd, 2019, Twitter user jaboukie then posted the earliest-known meme under the caption “me trying to stay awake on benadryl,” receiving over 77,000 likes and 18,000 retweets in roughly two years (video since deleted).
