When the UK went into lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, it happened so fast that people had no time to think. For Tumblr user wafflesrisa, that meant that at the law firm where she works, no one was able to bring home their office plants.
She and everyone else just assumed their plants had died from not being watered for over three months. Little did they know that the security team in their building had been caring for their plants the whole time.
Risa writes, “Here’s something cute: When lockdown happened in the UK it happened very suddenly. At the law firm I work at, our office building emptied overnight when everyone was told to work from home. No time to clear our desks, no time to bring office plants home.
“Fast forward three and a half months — everyone assumes that their plants are dead. But then! An email goes round! It turns out that one of our security guards is a florist and the security team has moved EVERY SINGLE PLANT from all 12 FLOORS of our office building into the cafeteria.
“It’s been turned into a temporary greenhouse. Cacti and succulents and spider plants and terrariums and spotted ferns… AND! Each plant has been INDIVIDUALLY LABELED by hand with Post-It notes with name and desk location so the plants can go home after lockdown ends.”
How magical and lovely is that?! Not only are they taking care of the plants, but they’re nurturing them and treating them wonderfully! I imagine this had to be shocking in the best way for the people who were mourning the assumed loss of their office plants.
To give you an idea of the scope of the plant-saving project, Risa provided this photo. In the bottom left corned, you can see one of the security team members in the back waving.
That’s how many plants these people saved! That’s a lot of plants! Risa wrote that when she first heard about how all the plants had been saved, she “had a good cry” about it. It really is next-level heartwarming.
Risa’s post has gone mega-viral, garnering thousands of likes and comments from people who were so touched by the actions of the security team. It’s not every day you’re sitting at your work desk crying over a bunch of plants who were saved by an office building security team, but today is definitely that day.
As of early September, Risa’s post has over 43,184 notes on Tumblr. She also wrote that her cactus, which she spotted in the pictures she was send, has grown an inch since she last saw him.
It’s true that there’s a connection between interacting with plants and mental health. They can actually brighten your mood and make you feel better. There’s a legitimate health reason for bringing someone a plant or a bunch of flowers when they’re recovering in the hospital.
Plants do us so much good, and it’s beyond delightful to see someone understand that and take the building’s plant care into their own hands while everyone else is home. Now the employees of the law firm will be infinitely happier to return to work than they would be if none of the plants made it.
