Rian Johnson, the director who divided Star Wars fans with The Last Jedi but won over critics and general audiences with the gleefully goofy Knives Out, has taken his talents to the world of Pokémon, directing a 30-second ad for Pokémon GO.
The commercial, dubbed “Look Closer,” is for the upcoming Pokémon GO Fest happening later this month to celebrate the game’s fourth anniversary (side note: remember the Pokémon GO summer? Simpler times).
“_Pokémon GO_ has kept me engaged with my friends remotely as I’ve been practicing physical distancing these past few months,” said Johnson. “As a longtime Pokémon trainer, it was a real pleasure working with Niantic on this spot.”
Johnson directed the spot remotely, collaborating with the cast and crew in New Zealand while he was in Los Angeles.
