Queen Elizabeth has been spotted for the first time since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made their startling announcement that the two were planning to scale back their involvement in the royal family as “senior royals” and work toward financial independence.
The Queen was seen behind the wheel of her Land Rover and is understood to have been on her way to a photo shoot … which has to be one of the last things she wants to be doing right now. But when there’s a royal crisis, the Queen is always one to carry on and keep her obligations, so there’s no reason to believe she’d react any differently right now.
Meanwhile, Prince Charles and Prince William have implored their teams to find a “workable solution” to the current crisis. It is believed that teams for the royal family have been communicating with North American governments to come up with a solution that everyone is happy with. Part of the discussions are said to be about funding for the couple, paying for security detail, and whether or not the couple will have official residences in both regions or if they will live as private citizens.
There are numerous details being thrown around online about what is or isn’t happening. At least one member of the British government is now calling for a referendum on the status of the royal family at large. Labour leadership hopeful Clive Lewis has said, “We are a democracy. I’d rather see us as citizens rather than subjects. Why not have a referendum in this country on the future of the royal family?” He later added, “In response to my comments about the royal family. I didn’t say they should be abolished, I have lots of respect for the hard work they do. I simply think the question about their size and the money they receive should be one for the public. Asking these questions is democratic.”
