Troy Thornton is an assistant train conductor in Boston. He drives the trains, collects fares, and lets riders on and off.

A three-year-old boy named Jake who lives near Troy’s train line absolutely loves trains. Every morning, Jake would stand on the platform and anxiously wait for Troy to drive his train through the tunnel.

Just as the train would whizz by, Troy would open the door without fail and call out to the ecstatic boy, “Hi Jake! See you tomorrow!”

With every day that passed, a stronger connection formed between the pair, and right in the middle of the pandemic. All because of this quick and simple morning drive-by tradition.

To Jake, Troy is a real-life superhero… and the feelings are mutual.

“He makes my day more than you know,” Troy told CBS. “I knew Jake was going to be there to make my day and cheer me up and sustain me. You forgot all the troubles for that minute and it just carried you.”

In the video below, Troy prepares to start on a different train line, which means he and Jake won’t get to see each other as often. So, Jake wanted to find an extra-special way to say goodbye.
