Prince William Shares Nostalgic Photo Of Princess Diana To Honor Emergency Service Workers

On September 9, the United Kingdom celebrates 999 Day. The day honors those who work in emergency services, as the emergency service number in the UK is 999. To commemorate the occasion, a throwback photo from Prince William and Prince Harry’s childhood was shared on the Kensington Royal Instagram account.

The 1988 photo features Prince William, Prince Harry, and their cousins Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall. The cousins posed on a fire truck in the yard of the Old Fire Station on the Sandringham House grounds. Princess Diana appears in the photo, watching the children play. She is wearing a beret over her iconic short blonde hair. Weeks ago, people worldwide remembered the late princess of the 22nd anniversary of her death.

Prince William feels very connected to emergency service workers. The Duke of Cambridge is a former air ambulance pilot. In the photo’s caption, he’s quoted as saying, “As a society, we owe our wellbeing, and indeed our lives, to the men and women in our emergency services who work tirelessly to protect us in some of the most difficult circumstances.”

The Duke of Cambridge spent the day visiting the Fire Fighters Charity’s Harcombe House in Devon, England. There, he learned more about the important work they do each day to support those who risk their lives to help others and their families.
