Rachel and Russell Keppner have their hands full with 13 children. Earlier this year, their lives got a little more difficult when Russell suffered a brain aneurysm.

Russell ended up being hospitalized after emergency surgery, which left Rachel caring for all 13 kids. Rachel had previously been a stay-at-home mom, but things changed after her husband suffered the aneurysm.

Luckily, Russell made it home for Christmas, but he and Rachel were still struggling. Although they were happy to have the whole family home for the holidays, they didn’t have a lot of spare money to spend on gifts.

That’s when East Idaho News decided to step in. For years, East Idaho News has received money from a donor for a “Secret Santa” giveaway. This year, the donor gave the news station $250,000 to give to people in the community.

Despite the struggles her family was facing, Rachel never complained. People at the news station heard Rachel’s story and decided they could do something to help.

The Secret Santa team showed up at IHOP, where Rachel and her family were having breakfast, and they handed her a box.

When Rachel opened the box, she was shocked to find a check for $5,000. Rachel immediately broke down in tears when she saw the check — all she could say was, “Thank you!”
