A mysterious incident at a Northern California elementary school has parents and educators more than a little alarmed.

FOX40 reports that four young children collapsed at Maxine Hong Kingston Elementary School in November 2018. All the kids spontaneously fainted on the same day, and there was no clear cause of what happened.

One parent told reporters that she was keeping her three kids home from school until an answer was determined. Jasmine Holland’s 10-year-old daughter witnessed two friends pass out while they were on the playground at recess.

“She was very distraught, and she let me know that at least two of her friends that she knows personally had collapsed for no apparent reason,” Jasmine told FOX40. “My children are everything to me and that’s a risk that I’m not willing to take.”

The four kids were sent to the hospital and the school district in Stockton placed the school on lockdown after the incident. Others reported that the scene was chaotic and “not organized” as parents rushed to retrieve their kids from the school.

The school’s HVAC system, roof, gas pipes, water, and carbon monoxide levels were all inspected and came up clear, as did toxicology reports. The cafeteria food was also tested and found to be clear of any possible contaminants.

The school was reopened the following day, but it’s still not clear what caused the fainting spells.
