For those holed up and watching shows amid the coronavirus outbreak, we have some bad news for you: Netflix announced it is temporarily stopping production on all scripted TV shows, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Netflix confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that it was shutting down production because of “government restrictions and health/safety precautions” due to the coronavirus.
The shutdown will last at least two weeks and could start affecting the shows in as soon as six weeks. One of the impacted shows is fan-favorite Stranger Things, according to Teen Vogue.
Netflix isn’t the only entertainment company announcing shutdown amid the coronavirus outbreak. The news comes after several other big-name services temporarily halted production. For example. Warner Bros. stopped production on more than 70 shows including The Bachelorette, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Live shows like The Ellen Show and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon have also given the red light to further production, according to Teen Vogue.
But for at least the next six weeks, streaming will remain normal on Netflix despite the coronavirus, meaning people can continue participating in the “social distancing” by watching their favorite shows at home.
The Daily Dot did not receive a comment from Netflix by the time of publication.
