Samantha Harmon instantly knew something was amiss when she heard a dog barking outside her home in Burbank, California.
She walked outside to find a small poodle mix, wandering the streets all alone. Then she leaned down and found a handwritten note tucked underneath his harness.
“Hi I’m Max, I’m 18 months old, I’m alone,” it read. “Take me.”
Samantha couldn’t believe someone could actually abandon this adorable, sweet dog. She wished she could adopt him, but she already had pets and knew it wouldn’t work. But she was determined to find someone who could.
So Samantha brought Max to the Burbank Animal Shelter. It wasn’t long before local animal lovers were clamoring to take him home. The demand became so great that the staff set up a raffle to adopt Max.
A woman named Maya was thrilled to win the raffle, but Max wasn’t a fit with her other dogs. Maya asked if she could give her ticket to another raffle hopeful, Cheryl, who also desperately wanted Max.
The shelter wasn’t able to transfer the winning ticket, so it held another raffle and started from scratch… and fate was about to have its way.
