To mark the changing of the seasons, there are all sorts of traditions humans have come up with because we clearly have nothing better to do. Like the Japanese game Suikawari, where people blindfold each other and try to smash watermelons with a stick to officially ring in the summer.
Now I don’t know if the Black Fox Distillery in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan is aware of Suikawari, but it seems that they’re also fond of smashing produce. And automobiles.
The Canadian farm and distillery holds an annual pumpkin festival and this year, in order to help raise awareness and funds for the local fire department and pediatric unit, they decided to smash a car with a giant pumpkin.
And as you can see from the video below, it was a pretty involved process. First, an enormous pumpkin was filled with candy and then pulled way up in the air with the help of a crane, before it was ceremoniously released onto the the vehicle.
The car clearly didn’t stand a chance, but then again, that’s what happens when you drop a 1,300 pound agricultural wonder on a machine.

Photographers were there to capture the aftermath, which obviously delighted the children who witnessed it. I mean, what kid wouldn’t want to see an enormous pumpkin smash a car and then get candy afterwards?
More than 2,000 people attended the event with all the proceeds being put to good use. So yes, it might be strange that monstrous sized technically fruits are being used to destroy man-made products, but at the end of the day, it was for a good cause.
I mean, unless you count mindlessly entertaining destruction a good cause too. Then the whole event was a win-win.
