Archie Williams was just 22 years old when he was arrested in 1982 for the rape and attempted murder of a woman in Louisiana.

There was no forensic evidence against him, but Archie was sentenced to life in prison without parole when his photo was picked from a lineup.

In 1995, after spending 12 years behind bars, Archie took a chance and wrote a letter to the Innocence Project, a nonprofit organization that uses DNA evidence to exonerate wrongfully convicted people.

In March 2019, thanks to the help of the Innocence Project, fingerprint analysis finally freed Archie — after 37 years.

Archie says he made it through nearly four decades behind bars with a lot of prayer and with the power of music.

At 59 years old, Archie wanted to use his newfound freedom to fulfill his lifelong dream of performing onstage.

In the incredible video below, Archie steps onto the America’s Got Talent stage to sing his stunning rendition of Elton John’s song “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me.”

Simon Cowell says it was “the single most important” performance in the show’s 14-year history, and you’re about to see why.
