51-year-old Tommy Macias loved documenting his life on Facebook and keeping his loved ones up-to-date on his comings and goings, thoughts and feelings.

During the pandemic, Tommy made sure to stay home as much as possible and wear a face mask whenever he was in public.

But as businesses began to reopen and social distancing guidelines loosened, Tommy decided to attend a backyard party at his friend’s house in California.

Apparently, none of the guests at this party wore masks. And since Tommy had diabetes, he was at a higher risk of contracting the virus. He had been so careful for months.

A few days after the party, one of the guests tested positive for coronavirus.

Shortly thereafter, Tommy called his mom and said he was struggling to breathe. He was rushed to the hospital.

Three days after being diagnosed with COVID-19, Tommy passed away. The sudden news left his loved ones shocked, disturbed, and grieving.

One day before his untimely death, Tommy signed onto Facebook to update his circle just like he always did — only his final post was far from the joyful tone his friends were so used to.
