Kate Middleton’s birthday is today and reports about the way she celebrated sounds perfectly low-key and family oriented.
Vanity Fair reports that, while the royal doesn’t love birthday celebrations and didn’t have an “official” celebrations planned,” palace aides confirmed that the duchess will be celebrating “privately.” Sources told the mag that Kate, Prince William, and their children would be celebrating with a tea party at Kensington Palace in the afternoon.
“Kate’s not into big birthday celebrations, but [Prince] George and [Princess] Charlotte adore birthday cake, so there will be a special tea party at the Palace with candles and presents,” a source told Vanity Fair.
Of course, since this is an intimate family gathering, it’s unlikely we royal fans will see photos of Kate wearing a conical birthday hat or anything like that.
According to reports, Kate (who didn’t have any royal engagements scheduled for today) is thought to have spent the day at the palace with Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte while Prince George was at school and Prince William was attending a few royal engagements in the morning. The Duke of Cambridge even joked about it being his wife’s birthday with a young fan who handed him a birthday card she’d made for Kate.
“Thank you for remembering,” Prince William said, according to E! News. “I did remember this morning, so I was okay!”
The royal family also took to their official social media accounts to wish the Duchess of Cambridge a happy birthday. They highlighted Kate’s love of children-centric charities in their birthday post.
“Happy Birthday to HRH The Duchess of Cambridge!” the family wrote. “The Duchess undertakes royal duties in support of The Queen, both in the UK and overseas – and devotes her time to supporting charitable causes and organizations, several of which are centered around providing children with the best possible start in life.”
