Joe Biden’s Dog Will Make History As The First Rescue Dog In The White House

Kamala Harris will be the first female and woman of color to be elected to the White House.

Jill Biden will be the first First Lady to work a full-time job outside of the White House, as she’ll be keeping her job as an English professor at Northern Virginia Community College.

And there’s another “first ever” arriving to the White House come January 2021: the first ever rescue dog.

Donald Trump was the first President to not have any pets in the White House since the 1800s. After four years of a pet-less presidency, Joe Biden’s German shepherd is ready to make history.

In 2018, “Major” was part of a litter of puppies that was surrendered to the Delaware Humane Association. The Bidens began fostering Major and he quickly bonded with their other German shepherd, Champ, a now-senior pup who they’ve had since 2008.

The President Elect has said in the past that he owned German shepherds ever since he was little, and has trained and even shown them in competition.

But it was, happily, a foster fail; Joe Biden and his family fell in love with Major and officially adopted him in November 2018.

Champ is no stranger to the White House, since he was there when his dad served as Vice President under President Obama.

Major, however, is excited to take his first steps into 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, where he will hopefully inspire more families around the world to adopt a rescue animal.
