Opera is an incredibly complicated style of music to pursue. It takes more than a voice; it takes emotion, understanding, and power. Somehow, 10-year-old Emanne Beasha has all these things and more. She showed the world just that when she graced the stage of America’s Got Talent.
Before her performance, Emanne’s taped introduction explained her love of singing. She also showed off her good luck charm, a stuffed unicorn. Then she got on stage and surprised the judges, who expected the young girl to belt out a pop hit. Instead, she performed “Caruso,” an Italian opera song. The beautiful song was perfect for her powerhouse voice.
By the time she belted the last note, all the judges were on their feet, as was the crowd. “You’re only 10 years old, and we are seeing acts come out here and they’re sweating, and they’re not performing to par, they’re not stepping it up, and they’re double your age,” Howie Mandel noted. “And then you come out here and you show them how it’s done.”
“To have a voice like this isn’t something you can train to get,” Simon said. “It genuinely is a gift.”
Guest judge Jay Leno was truly floored. “I feel like I am witness to something extremely special,” he explained. “At some point in my career, people will say, ‘What do you remember the most?’ And I’ll say, ‘I remember hitting the Golden Buzzer.’” Just like that, he slammed the Golden Buzzer. It brought Emanne to tears as the golden confetti showered down on her.
