Isabelle “Town Tune” Previews (not to be confused with Isabelle’s Song) refers to a series of videos in which people make creative use of Animal Crossing: New Horizons “Town Tune” feature, which allows players to compose anthems which play at various locations on their island. When players compose a tune, Isabelle will sing what they’ve written back to them to make sure it’s what the player wants. Some players have posted videos of Isabelle singing famous songs that they have written in the tune creator.

Origin

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, players can create a “Town Tune” which will play at various locations on their island. To create a tune, one must speak to Isabelle. After writing the melody, Isabelle will sing it back to the player (example shown below).

Spread

Shortly after the game’s release, players shared videos of Isabelle singing popular songs that they had transcribed into the tune creator. On March 29th, 2020, YouTuber Kathryn posted a video of Isabelle singing the national anthem for the USSR, gaining over 1.2 million views (shown below, left). On March 22nd, YouTuber MrDanishButterCookie posted a video of Isabelle singing numerous popular songs, gaining over 886,000 views (shown below, right).

Users also posted similar videos to Twitter. For example, Twitter user @georgewhips posted a video of Isabelle singing “Buddy Holly” by Weezer (shown below, top). User @syh_bae posted a video of Isabelle singing “Love Scenario” by iKON, gaining over 280 retweets and 400 likes (shown below, bottom). The videos were covered by Junkee.
