Internet Fascinated By ‘Neon Genesis Evangelion’ Figurine Behind Gamer Tony Hawk

It’s no secret that Tony Hawk has fully embraced the existential nightmare of being Tony Hawk phase of his life, but a recent still of the skateboarder playing his new, much-beloved remake of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 seemed to truly encapsulate the life-as-50-year-old-Tony Hawk experience.

The image comes from a recent video by 2dudes1game, which finds Mike Mo Capaldi, Chris Roberts and Steezus, themselves skaters, trying to literally beat Tony at his own game.

For the most part, Tony is very good at Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1+2 (except Downhill Jam, which is an abomination of a level), but Twitter users were more drawn to the video’s set, which very prominently features a figurine of Asuka from Neon Genesis Evangelion in the background.

Unfortunately for those imagining we’d just caught a glimpse into deep Tony Hawk lore, the Asuka figurine is part of 2dudes1game’s set and can be seen in other videos on their channel which do not involve Tony Hawk. This doesn’t necessarily mean Hawk isn’t a weeb with an Asuka crush, but unfortunately, there’s no evidence to support that claim at this time.
