Actor Idris Elba, aka everyone’s boyfriend, recently shared that he’s tested positive for coronavirus. Since then, he has been using social media to update everyone about how he’s doing with video diaries.
He is also using the videos to encourage people to stop sharing a few theories about the virus that are obviously incorrect. One is the belief that Black people can’t get the virus—which is obviously not true. In his Twitter Live video, he said “Please guys, now is not the time. People need to know facts, need to understand the truth so that they can protect themselves. Stop sending this stuff out. It’s very dangerous for all, not just black people, but for everyone.”
He also asked why he was tested if he didn’t have symptoms, and he said he took the test after learning he had attended an event on March 4 and another attendee tested positive. He was due to begin a new film and took the test to be safe. “We were really lucky to test very quickly because of the shortages of the test, but from my perspective it was the best thing to do immediately was to get tested because I was going to be around a lot of people starting this new film.”
In his most recent update, Idris shares that “My voice is a little bit tired, I just didn’t sleep that well. Still don’t have any symptoms, checking my fever twice a day.”
His wife, Sabrina, has also been tested, and the couple is waiting for her results to come back.
