Arsenal and Chelsea have advanced to the FA Cup Final, after impressive semi-final performances from both. Chelsea qualified for the Champions League on the final day in the Premier League. Arsenal, meanwhile, will only be playing in the Europa League next season if they triumph on Saturday and hoist the club’s 14th FA Cup. Otherwise, there will be no European football for Arsenal since 1992.

Arsenal vs. Chelsea: Recent form, summary of last match, odds, starting lineups

Arsenal struggled to finish the season under Mikel Arteta, coming in 8th place in his first season in charge. There was no lack of great performances during its FA Cup run, however, including the 2-0 victory over cup holders Manchester City in the semi-final. Arteta showed out against Guardiola, the manager whom he coached for from the 2016 season to December of 2019, and proved to the league that he is more than just an assistant coach.

Arsenal’s next greatest challenge will be a financial one, with the club in an already precarious position without the added pressure of the COVID-19 pandemic. A win on Saturday and the money that would come from a Europa League berth would certainly help the Gunners in this summer’s transfer market.

Chelsea has already achieved its primary objective this season, so the final on Saturday is for bragging rights and for Lampard’s first trophy as manager. Super Frank took over a club in the middle of a transfer ban, and with some help from talented youngsters like Tammy Abraham and Christian Pulisic, managed to stay in the top four and discover who will be the stars of Chelsea’s next generation. With Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner confirmed and Kai Havertz on the brink of signing, Chelsea will have the firepower to contend for major honors in 2021.

Defeating a rival in a cup final would be the perfect way to bookend the season, much like the Blues did in last year’s Europa League final, which was a great sendoff for Eden Hazard and kept Arsenal out of the Champions League. Chelsea is the favorite based on form and talent, but Lampard will need to keep his side motivated if the Blues are to win an eighth FA Cup.
