No holiday soiree is complete without a good dip. And no, we’re not talking about the limbo (though you do you). Hungry guests with a hankering for hummus or a taste for tapenade automatically head to the dip spread at any holiday party.

But too often, a bowl of dip can look tired or unappetizing, especially if you’re the type of hostess whose idea of homemade is opening the container all by herself. No judgment — we have all been that hostess.

To solve this conundrum, we turned to our savvy entertaining expert, Slice host Evette Ríos. We asked her to give us her pro tips for putting tasty twists on store-bought dips that will fool guests into thinking they’re homemade. Hey, half the art of entertaining are the tricks you hide up your sleeve (or under your chef toque).

Evette starts with a selection of already tasty premade dips, that she picks up with Walmart’s Grocery Pickup (they make shopping super easy by bringing your groceries straight to your car!). Evette opts for the Marketside spinach and artichoke dip, roasted red pepper hummus, and the Terraverde Kalamata and fig tapenade.

Now for the magic: Using simple ingredients most people likely already have in the kitchen, Evette adds a homemade twist to each dip, elevating both the appetizer and her holiday party. For example, Evette tops the spinach and artichoke dip with savory chunks of bacon to add crunch and smoky flavor. Plus, everything is better with bacon!

Check out the episode of Little Slices below for the rest of Evette’s holiday dip tips! Just don’t watch on an empty stomach.
