College gymnast Samantha Cerio suffered a catastrophic leg injury that left her unable to walk for weeks. Just two months later, she achieved her goal of walking down the aisle at her wedding.
Samantha was completing a floor routine at the NCAA semifinals when attempted a blind landing on a tumbling pass. She landed badly, and she ended up breaking both legs and tearing ligaments in both knees.
The injury ended her gymnastics career, which was heartbreaking enough. But Samantha was also due to get married in two months. She was determined to walk down the aisle without crutches or a walker.
“She wants to walk down the aisle and get married, and we’re hoping she can do that,” her coach, Jeff Graba, said in an interview after her injury.
Amazingly, Samantha achieved her goal. On June 1, she married Trey Wood in Fairhope, Alabama — and she walked down the aisle on her own two feet.
