This man is a true hero.

Former volunteer firefighter Len Swatchick happened to be in the right place at the right time when he spotted smoke pouring out of a house in a neighborhood he was doing construction in. Luckily, a woman and her two children had escaped unscathed from the potentially deadly flames; however, the family’s 10 dogs were still inside the house.

That’s when the 53-year-old construction firm owner sprang into action, saying his former volunteer work as a firefighter 25 years ago helped him act quickly. Without thinking twice, he ran into the house to save the family’s beloved furry family members. Little did he know, his cellphone recorded audio of the entire ordeal.

“I found something in the yard. I covered up the windowsill. Five or six dogs came out at that point. There were still four dogs in there,” Len told reporters. “The house was really burning. It was really hot. I was getting really hot. There were two dogs left and we didn’t have much time to get them out.”

Thankfully, all 10 dogs were rescued and appeared to be in good health.

“I feel sorry for the family, I do,” he said. “But hopefully having their 10 dogs is something. I just felt like I was placed over there to help them out. It’s pretty weird, but it seems to happen to me. At the right place at the right time, I guess, like a guardian angel.”
