Nobody likes to be in the hospital, but it’s even more upsetting when something tragic happens around the holidays. Just ask Jimmy Carter. The ex-president has been to two different hospitals in recent weeks. The good news is, he’s on the mend.

President Carter is currently 95 and has the title of world’s oldest living ex-president. That means that any sort of health scare could eventually lead to bad news. However, Jimmy is still fighting the good fight. His first recent trip was due to a brain bleed. According to AP News, he was admitted to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, and the bleeding happened due to a fall. The situation required surgery, which he recovered from beautifully. After that hospitalization, he was able to spend Thanksgiving at home with his wife Rosalynn.

The second trip was unrelated to the brain bleed. He suffered from a urinary tract infection, and according to People, was admitted to Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia. Throughout President Carter’s life, he has beaten the odds. He’s living proof that a bad diagnosis can still be overcome with a little bit of perseverance. Plus, having the loving support of Rosalynn Carter can’t hurt either.
