Emma Corrin is very proud of her portrayal of Princess Diana in season 4 of The Crown. That said, she’s not exactly ready to encounter the royal family and discuss.

The 24-year-old actress recently sat down with British GQ to discuss the role. She admitted that she wouldn’t know what to do if she ran into Prince William or Prince Harry in the wild.

“If I ever saw them at a party, I’d probably leave!” she said.

She is a little curious what they’d think of her portrayal. “I can’t imagine,” she said.

“I’m not going to say it doesn’t matter, because that would be ignorant. If someone made a program about my grandma, who died last year, that would be difficult for me to watch. I’d be interested to know what they think.”

Emma plays Diana from ages 16-28 in this season. Seasons 5 and 6 will see Elizabeth Debicki portray Diana through the end of her life.

“She has no idea what she’s getting involved with,” Emma says of Diana during the early years.

“And it was more exciting to play that because you are showing sides of somebody people don’t know.”

“She had this idea of what she wanted it to be because she was so young. I drew on my own experience for that. I think of myself as young, but I was 23 when we were filming. Diana was 19; 16 at the start.”

Emma remembers being a little foolish for infatuation herself at that age. “When I was 16, I had a massive crush on our tennis coach, and every time he came round to teach my brothers I used to sit outside and pretend to be reading something really intellectual,” she recalled.

“You do that. You do those things. You think you’re doing the coolest thing in the world when you’re a teenager and you like someone.”
