After a rough and scandal-filled summer, Ellen DeGeneres has officially returned to her long-running talk show. And just as promised, she has already addressed the claims that she has fostered a toxic workplace for many of her previous and current employees.

Now that three senior-level producers left the show, and DJ tWitch has been promoted to co-executive producer, it looks as though the 62-year-old host and comedian is ready to make some changes for the better.

Instead of shying away from the issues, or stepping away from her show altogether, Ellen addressed her audience on her first day back in the studio in her first opening monologue of the 18th season.

Her apology seemed heartfelt, and it was especially interesting to hear her talk about her ultimate regret in calling herself the “Be Kind Lady.”

“Being known as the ‘Be Kind Lady’ is a tricky position to be in. So let me give you some advice out there. If anybody is thinking of changing their title or giving yourself a nickname, do not go with the ‘Be Kind Lady.’ Don’t do it,” she said.
