Lindsey Miller has been the principal of Mill Creek Elementary School in Missouri for four years. Since December, though, she’s been unable to go to school. She was diagnosed with cancer over the holiday break.
Among Lindsey’s biggest cheerleaders? Her young students at Mill Creek.
“She helped me grow up and be in this school,” fifth-grader Jason Meza told WDAF.
Jason, along with several other students, spent this Monday morning making greeting cards for Lindsey. They’re also collecting money for “cancer care bags,” which include items that the principal will find useful as she begins chemotherapy. The bags include lip balm, warm fuzzy socks, and magazines.
Their efforts came at just the right time. The entire school district celebrated this week as Kindness Week – and Lindsey is definitely in need of some extra kindness.
“Our principal is really nice, and she helps everyone learn,” Jason said. “She helps everyone have a great day because she always has a big smile on her face. I’m really concerned about her.”
Both students and staff members say the principal has made a serious impact on the school.
“She just really helps our school run nice, so everybody know they’re doing the right job and stuff,” fifth-grader Mari Carreon said.
Kevin Drinkard, the school’s current acting principal, agrees. He says the school has “a community that’s really together, and kids that care about their teachers.” The students’ sweet plans for their principal are proof!
