Spoilers for The Boys ahead!

A vile superhero with zero respect for ethics, the law, or just about any code of conduct? That’s The Homelander in a nutshell.

The antagonist of The Boys embodies everything popular comic book characters like Superman or Captain America fight against. From acts of sexual abuse to murdering the vice president of the U.S., there’s nothing the vile criminal wouldn’t do.

So, it’s no wonder some fans are eagerly awaiting his death on screen. How does he die in the comic book series?

The Homelander dies a grisly death in the original ‘The Boys’ comic series.

A crucial volume of the comic book series, “The Innocents,” plunges The Homelander into a type of catastrophe even he feels fazed by.

After receiving a few photos that show him conducting the most sickening crimes fathomable, The Homelander finds himself in the midst of an excruciating mental health crisis.

Why? Alas, he doesn’t remember committing any of the acts shown. Unable to work out how the photos could have been made, he starts to question his perception of reality.

According to Fandom, the discovery eventually leads The Homelander to get up to even more odious deeds. As to his most apocalyptic act? Drunk on a potent mix of sadism and megalomania, The Homelander decides to hijack a Christian convention for superheroes and fans, and recruit a group of people keen to fight for Vought-America, a group opposing the U.S. government and the military.

“Over the Hill with the Swords of a Thousand Men” revolves around the coup d’etat he orchestrates. In it, The Homelander leads his team of superhero recruits to invade the White House, before proceeding to decapitate Vic the Veep, the former CEO of Vought and the vice president of the U.S.

However, his victory is short-lived. He is soon joined by his lifelong nemesis, Billy Butcher, and the mysterious Black Noir. The latter seizes the rare opportunity to remove his mask — and reveal that he was cloned after The Homelander.

The revelation comes as an enormous surprise to everyone in the room. The Homelander doesn’t have to question his sanity any further or attempt to string together a coherent explanation for how he committed the horrid crimes. What’s more, it also helps him refute the long-standing allegation that it was he who raped and killed Billy Butcher’s wife.

Unfortunately, the story doesn’t end all that well. Having learned that he was repenting for the hideous deeds committed by Black Noir all along, The Homelander only sees one appropriate response to the big unveiling.

The two start a vicious fight, and Black Noir is the one to come out winning. He murders The Homelander on the spot, letting him bleed out in The Oval Office.

Fortunately, however, Billy Butcher is able to turn the situation around and take much-needed revenge on Black Noir for gravely harming his wife — and he manages to kill him. Meanwhile, the rest of the group is dispersed by the U.S. military.

Season 2 of The Boys arrives on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, Sept. 4.
