Do Not Cite the Deep Magic to Me, Witch is a memorable quote from the 1950 fantasy novel The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by British writer C. S. Lewis and the 2005 film of the same name. Since 2016, a two-panel screen capture of the scene from the move has been circulated as an image macro.
Origin
On December 9th, 2005, fantasy movie The Chornicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe based on the children’s book of the same name by C. S. Lewis premiered in the theaters. In one scene of the film, character Aslan, a lion, interrupts the White Witch by telling her not to cite the deep magic to him.
Spread
On December 1st, 2016, Instagram user narnia.folk posted a watermarked two-panel macro based on the scene. The post gained over 60 likes in two years.
On April 10th, 2018, Twitter user @kaludiasays paired the macro with a humorous caption in a tweet. The post gained over 50,100 retweets and 150,400 likes in nine months.
On April 11th, 2018, Redditor dickfromaccounting posted the macro with a similar caption to /r/memes subreddit (shown below, top left), where it gained over 35,300 upvotes in six months. In the following days, variations of the meme also appeared in /r/Yogscast, /r/Freefolk, /r/dogecoin and other subreddits.
Through 2018 and 2019, the macro saw moderate use across a variety of subreddits, including /r/prequelmemes, /r/pcmasterrace and /r/dankmemes.
