It has been reported that Mount Sinai West in Manhattan, along with other New York-based hospitals, are quickly running out of gowns, masks, and other critical pieces of personal protective equipment (PPE).

At Mt. Sinai West, nurses have been forced to wear garbage bags as protective gowns — a frightening reality captured in a photo that has already left a mark on society.

A Facebook photo began circulating showing three Mt. Sinai West nurses donning black trash bags inside the hospital.

“NO MORE GOWNS IN THE WHOLE HOSPITAL,” the caption read. “NO MORE MASKS AND REUSING THE DISPOSABLE ONES…NURSES FIGURING IT OUT DURING COVID-19 CRISIS.”

Kious Kelly, 48, was an assistant nursing manager at the hospital, directly treating patients infected with the virus, when he started feeling symptoms himself.

One week after testing positivit for COVID-19, Kious passed away.

In the days since the garbage bag photo went viral, one distraught nurse has came forward, doubling down on claims that nurses do not have the protection they need.

Dina Torres is a nurse at Mt. Sinai West says that speaking out like this means her job is on the line.
