Ever since she was a little girl, MJ Ryan’s mother has drilled into her the same powerful sentiment: “There’s always an alternate route. When something gets in your way, find a way around it.”
It’s something MJ has always remembered, and now she’s really putting her mom’s teachings to use.
Back in March 2020, like countless other families across the world, MJ and her family were heartbroken when COVID-19 stripped them of their rights to visit her mother in person.
Theresa is 90 years old and has dementia. She’s been living at a nursing home in Massachusetts, but using technology to communicate with her loved ones can be very difficult and stressful.
As Theresa’s health began to decline, MJ became more and more desperate to be with her. She begged the staff at the nursing home for any opportunity that would allow her to see her beloved mom.
As it turned out, there was an opportunity in the form of a part-time gig — doing laundry for the elderly residents on Thursday afternoons.
It was exactly what MJ, an experienced healthcare professional, was looking for. She jumped at the chance.
People are really stepping up in awesome ways during this difficult pandemic.
