Demi Lovato is almost seven months sober. But if she hadn’t relapsed last year, she would have hit the seven-year mark last Friday. The singer shared some thoughts on her would-be seventh anniversary on Instagram Stories.

Demi has struggled with addiction for many years. Last March, she celebrated six years of sobriety, but shortly after, she relapsed. She was hospitalized for an overdose in July.

She’s now back on the path of recovery, and she said in December that she is “happy and clean.”

On Friday, she reflected on her relapse and ongoing sobriety.

“Today I would’ve had 7 years sober,” she wrote. “I don’t regret going out because I needed to make those mistakes but I must never forget that’s exactly what they were: mistakes.”

Demi went on to thank Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous for never “shutting the door.” From her perspective, she didn’t lose those six years of sobriety. She’s continuing right where she left off.

Demi shared an uplifting message for anyone else who’s struggling with a relapse: “If you’re alive today, you can make it back. You’re worth it.”
