In 2009, a horror movie called “Orphan” sent chills down its audience’s spines. The film is about a grieving couple who adopt a nine-year-old orphan named Esther after their unborn child passes away. At the end of the movie, however, there’s a big twist — and we learn that Esther isn’t who we thought she was at all. The truth is much more sinister.

The video you’re about to see will introduce you to a real-life couple whose recent circumstances look and sound a whole lot like the fictitious plot line above.

In 2010, Michael and Kristine Barnett of Florida adopted a six-year-old orphaned girl named Natalia Grace. The Barnetts, who have three other children, were told Natalia came from Ukraine and had a rare form of dwarfism that made her look a lot different than other children her age.

Shortly after bringing Natalia into their home, the Barnetts said they began to notice her strange characteristics and behaviors. For example, they claimed she had a particularly advanced vocabulary and was already showing “signs of menstruation.”

Then, Michael said things took a terrifying and violent turn — so extreme that the entire Barnett family ended up moving to another state and leaving Natalia behind.

But then comes the big twist… and it’s putting Natalia’s identity into question.
