After stopping at the Hy-Vee grocery store in Kansas City, Missouri, Officer Joe Holt returned to his patrol car to eat his lunch.

That’s when he spotted a 14-year-old boy removing his jacket in the pouring rain and sprinting across the parking lot.

Seconds later, Officer Holt realized the teen was running toward a 93-year-old woman who was struggling to return to her car in the downpour. Out of the kindness of his heart, this incredible teen ran over to her, draped his jacket over her back to shield her from the rain, and safely escorted her all the way back to her vehicle.

The teen clearly wasn’t doing this for attention or praise, but Officer Holt refused to let the good deed go unnoticed. He snapped a photo and followed the teen to his mom’s car so he could tell her what he’d just witnessed — a story that left the mother crying tears of pride.

Officer Holt’s photo went viral on Facebook, and the Independence Police Department quickly decided to search for the teen’s whereabouts, in an effort to properly thank him for being such a Good Samaritan. It wasn’t long before local news stations were running stories about the mysterious teenager and the police officer trying to track him down.

In the end, Officer Holt reconnected with the teen to make good on his promise … and then some!
