Last night Brad Pitt attended the National Board of Review Annual Awards Gala, where he won the award for Best Supporting Actor for his recent role in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
In his speech, Brad took time to thank one of his good friends, Bradley Cooper for showing up. “Thank you, Bradley. Bradley just put his daughter to bed and then rushed over to do this,” he said. Brad then added, “I got sober because of this guy. And every day’s been happier ever since.” He then turned to Bradley directly and added, “I love you, and I thank you.”
Brad hasn’t spoke about his sobriety publicly very often, and this is the first time he mentioned that someone else, namely another big star in Hollywood, has helped him with it.
It has been known that Brad entered Alcoholics Anonymous after his 2017 split from Angelina Jolie, and in December 2019 he gave an interview about his alcoholism and how it’s impacted his life.
While speaking to Anthony Hopkins during the interview, Brad said, “I’m realizing, as a real act of forgiveness for myself for all the choices that I’ve made that I’m not proud of, that I value those missteps, because they led to some wisdom, which led to something else. You can’t have one without the other,” Pitt says. “I see it as something I’m just now getting my arms around at this time in my life. But I certainly don’t feel like I can take credit for any of it.”
After Anthony mentioned “I’ve read you had a struggle with booze and all that,” Brad was quick to say he sees alcohol as a “disservice” and an “escape.”
