As another black man has died at the hands of police, even more outrage has been sparked among protesters.

Police officer Devin Brosnan arrived to a Wendy’s drive-thru lane in Atlanta. That’s where Rayshard Brooks, 27, had fallen asleep at the wheel at about 10:30 p.m. Brooks moved his car to the parking lot as another officer arrived.

Brooks reportedly failed a sobriety test. As the pair of cops tried to handcuff him, the situation escalated and ultimately led to Brooks’ death.

The officers struggled to cuff him, warning him to “stop fighting.” They tussled on the concrete before Brooks escaped and attempted to run off.

According to The New York Times, “The officer, Garrett Rolfe, who had worked with the department since 2013, fired his handgun three times while he was chasing Mr. Brooks, who the authorities said had seized a Taser from an officer and fired it as he ran.”

Brooks later died at the hospital.

Erika Shields, Atlanta’s police chief, has since resigned. Officer Garrett Rolfe has been fired, and officer Devin Brosnan has been placed on administrative leave.

Now, footage is circulating that shows the confrontation that led up to yet another fatal shooting.
