Bill Dipperly is the colloquial name given to the song “Built Differently,” created by Twitch streamer Pokélawls. The song is a parody of internet tough guys, as Pokélawls uses a squeaky falsetto voice to say the phrase “I’m built differently.” Because of the way the phrase is pronounced, some fans have joked that he’s singing “I’m Bill Dipperly.”
Origin
On October 15th, 2020, Pokélawls posted an a capella track to his Soundcloud called “Built Differently” (shown below).
On October 18th, Pokélawls posted moments from his Twitch stream showing him creating a full song with the vocal sample (shown below).
Spread
On October 22nd, 2020, Pokélawls posted a version of the track with instrumental backing, gaining over 330,000 views (shown below).
The track became popular with other streamers, who filmed themselves watching the video on their streams, including streamers AmyeC3 (shown below, left) and Shroud (shown below, right).
Pokélawls also invited fans to remix the track, and posted a compilation of submissions on YouTube on October 24th, 2020 (shown below).
