Bobbi Fischbein gave birth to her son on Christmas Eve in 1961. Her parents hurried over to the Charles T. St. Paul’s Miller Hospital in Minnesota to meet their new grandson in person.

But before walking through the hospital doors, Bobbi’s parents heard the sound of faint cries coming from somewhere in the parking lot.

There was no one else around, yet it was clear a baby was wailing outside in the cold.

Bobbi’s mother followed the sound of the cries, weaving her way through the parked cars. She suddenly found herself standing underneath canopy, pretty far away from the hospital’s entrance.

At her feet was a cardboard box draped with a small blanket — and a newborn baby girl inside, totally exposed to the cold Minnesota air.

Doctors told Bobbi’s parents that if they had found her just 10 minutes later, it would have been too late; she would have surely passed away from the freezing temperatures and lack of care.

Nurses rushed “Baby Holly” inside and news of the abandoned newborn made local headlines. Bobbi’s parents never saw her again, but took solace in knowing Holly was in safe hands at the hospital.

The decades passed and Bobbi always wondered what happened to Baby Holly — especially every year on her son’s birthday.

Then in 2016, she was watching a WCCO news segment on TV when her ears perked up. Then a black-and-white photo of a baby girl appeared on the screen.

After 55 years, Bobbi was about to learn what happened to Baby Holly.
