Disney+ launches in Nov. 2019, and it’s already got an original Christmas movie in the works.
Anna Kendrick stars in Noelle, a modern-day Santa tale in which the old Saint Nick is finished and his son — played by Bill Hader — is an unwilling replacement. So unwilling, in fact, that he sneaks off and becomes a yoga instructor for neo-hippies.
Kendrick’s Noelle is the new Santa’s sister, and really the more responsible sibling. Why they don’t just name her Santa is a mystery! But I bet she will be by the end. For the time being, Hader’s Santa replacement is a North Pole IT guy played by Billy Eichner.
It’s a schmaltzy pitch, sure, but the combined comedy chops of Kendrick, Hader, and Eichner promise to make Noelle memorable. It comes to Disney+ on Nov. 12, the day the service launches.
