It’s the end of an era over at The Voice. It’s been announced that after 16 seasons, Adam Levine will be leaving his coach’s chair. The news was confusing for fans of the singing competition show. Just a week prior, it was announced that all the current coaches would return for Season 17.

Carson Daly announced the news on Today on Friday. “After 16 seasons, Adam Levine, our beloved coach and friend, has decided to leave The Voice,” the host explained. “Adam was one of the original coaches who launched the show, winning the competition three times and inspiring many of the artists that he worked so closely with over the years… He’ll always be a cherished member of the Voice family… and we wish him nothing but the best.”

The show echoed the sentiment in a statement released on its social media channels. Although everyone seems to be on good terms following news of the departure, fans have noted Adam’s heart hasn’t seemed quite into his coaching gig as of late.
